THTR 311: Studies in Drama (Intercultural Theatre):This course examines the historical and contemporary practices and critical debates of intercultural performance. Topic include: pre- and early 20th century European encounters of Asian theatre, intercultural theatre productions and debates of the 1980s and 1990s, Asian Shakespeare productions, and contemporary intercultural performance in North America.

THTR 340B: Modern Asian Theatre: This class focuses on the modern, Western-style spoken theatre in Asia in the 20th century, with plays from India, China, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

In Theatre 500 we will investigate a range of critical theatre studies methodologies. The course aims to develop research, writing, editing and conceptual skills associated with the profession. As a practical course, you will be asked to do a lot of writing and re-writing as well as critical editing of each other's work. Students will be responsible for two seminar presentations and one final essay. As with all graduate courses, critical engagement with course materials and full attendance is required, particularly as classes meet only once a week. Classes will meetin in Buchanan Tower, Room 433 (BUTO 433).
