Introduction to techniques and practices of digital media production within the context of ethical community engagement. This course will introduce students to the theory and history of Asian Canadian media, research practices for short media projects, and topics such as race and representation, alternative media, and the ethics of community-based research. Discussions will be supplemented by viewings of selected works in Asian Canadian media, short readings, and visits by guest speakers. Previous filmmaking, video, or audio experience is not required, but a background in Asian Canadian Studies is highly recommended. Lab and lecture locations will alternate each week.
