Collective Trauma and Social Upheaval in Post-World War II German Society. In this course we will read, discuss and analyze a variety of short but poignant German texts (poems, short stories, short (graphic) novel excerpts, popular song texts, magazine articles), and view some German films focusing on the time period between 1945 and the beginning of the 21st century. Areas of study include 1. The Traumas of World War II and Hiroshima; 2. The Cold War and the Berlin Wall; 3. Environmental Pollution and Nuclear Catastrophe; 4. New Communication Technologies, Identity and Alienation. This course is taught in German.
