(HIST 490 is intended for History majors, History honours students, and students majoring in the history and philosophy of science, but students from other departments may register if they obtain the instructor's permission.) Topic for HIST 490A is Paper, Ink and Pixels. A Global History of the Book. Examines the evoluation of the book across the globe from bamboo manuscripts and papyrus to Kindle and Kobo. Topics include social and cultural history of books, material history of books, print culture, manuscripts, libraries and archives.
