Improvisations and Variations: Bach, Beethoven, Chopin and many of our heroes improvised frequently, and
created variations on a theme. A hands-on course for all instruments, no improvisation background required.
At the completion of this course you will be able to create original melody lines over existing harmonic grids of
all genres, employing motivic development, rhythmic and textural variation, and call and response techniques.
Respect the underlying harmony without being a slave to it! Prerequisite: MUSC 200, or special permission of instructor (email John Stetch: firstname.lastname@example.org) and 8 years of playing experience on any instrument. With MUSC 532P.
