PERS 104 Persian Reading and Writing for Persian-Speaking Students
Reading and writing of standard Persian; lexical and syntactic differences between written and spoken Persian. Restricted to Persian heritage speakers with aural/oral knowledge but no reading/writing skills.

Web-Oriented Course | 1 | Fri | 13:00 | 14:00 | This course is an introductory course for heritage language Persian speakers who have oral skills (speaking/comprehension), but lack writing and reading abilities. It introduces formal speech styles, reinforces grammatical accuracy, and improves reading and writing competencies. Restricted to Persian heritage* students or students born in Iran and who have studied in Iran up to (but not beyond) grade 2 before coming to Canada. *Heritage students are those with a certain level of oral and/or aural proficiency in Persian because they were raised in a home outside Iran where Persian was spoken. They have little or no knowledge of or training in reading and writing Persian. To secure a place in a Persian language course, attendance in all class meetings is mandatory during the first week of classes. Students with unexcused absences will be dropped from the course. The meeting days and times currently displayed reflect the maximum time that students will be expected to meet synchronously with the instructor. Courses that are meeting for fewer than 3 hours per week will have traditional lectures replaced with asynchronous learning tasks. The overall workload of the course will remain unchanged.
