THTR 325A: History of Canadian Theatre - Staging Multicultural Love and Migration. Focusing on English-language Canadian theatre produced between 2000 and 2019, this course explores award-winning plays from Vancouver (BC); Toronto, Kitchener, Ottawa (ON); Montreal (QC); and Dartmouth (NS). Such plays are characterized by artistic innovation and intercultural exploration, offering diverse entry points into dual themes of multicultural love and migration. Weekly lectures and discussions focus on plays written by Asian Canadian theatre artists, while staged readings turn attention to plays written by other racialized artists of European, African, Aboriginal (First Nations) and Middle Eastern descent.
