-  HIST 421D restricted to 4th year History honours students. Dr. Jessica Hanser is the instructor in 2019W. Global Microhistory: What can one Italian miller, a few Dutch paintings, a spoonful of sugar, a divorce trial, and a slave ship tell us about the history of the world? This course plays with scale in history and introduces students to a new methodological approach known by some of its practitioners as Global Microhistory-- that has become increasingly popular in the last ten years and tells big stories about the world through small things, places, people and events. Students will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty by writing their own global microhistories.
