Traces the explosive development of a provincial theatre into one of the seminal forces of twentieth-century drama and film. Emphasis on Ibsen, Strindberg, and Bergman.

Works to be considered may include those of Ibsen, Strindberg, Sjöström, and Bergman or others. In addition to literature and film, we will discuss visual art, music, and other cultural and artistic forms as they relate to the periods we are discussing.
