This course offers a deep dive into the philosophy of Augustine, the fountainhead of subsequent medieval philosophy. We also survey Augustine's influence on Western monasticism, medieval scholasticism, medieval political theory, the Renaissance, the Protestant Reformation, and Early Modern Philosophy (Descartes, Pascal, and Leibniz).
