FREN 123 202 | Web-Oriented Course | 2 | Mon Wed Fri | 10:00 | 11:00 | Contemporary French Language and Literature II French 123 is a continuation of French 122: a refinement of reading, speaking and listening skills with additional emphasis on techniques of writing through diverse activities: an interactive approach to the review of French grammar, stressing communicative competence; an emphasis on expressing ones opinion on different topics (work and studies, literature, arts and news): a practical application of strategies for essay-writing in French; a study of contemporary literature and other authentic documents (newspapers, blogs, music, etc.) of the French-Speaking world. The FREN 123 syllabus follows the Common European Framework of Reference guidelines for the B1.2 level. Three hours a week will be devoted to providing students with tools for dealing with most situations that they would likely encounter in a French speaking region. Students will be able to produce structured and connected texts on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or related to documents read inside and outside of the classroom (literature, news and ); to describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes and ambitions; and to give reasons and explanations for opinions, plans and decisions.
