ENGL 393 History of English Language II

History of the English language from Middle English to Early Modern and present-day English. Emphasis on changes/diversity in pronunciation, meaning/form changes, and sentence structure. Social-historical/cultural factors contributing to linguistic change; other varieties of English, such as Canadian English, Pidgins, Creoles; post-colonial uses of English.

This course is not eligible for Credit/D/Fail grading.
