This course provides a critical survey of twentieth-century visual art practices in Western art within their social, political and philosophical contexts up until and including the 1950s, with a special emphasis on major movements of the historic avant-garde.

Movements to be covered include Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Dada, and Surrealism among others.
