Finding a Course

There are several ways of finding courses.

Browse Courses
  1. Select "Courses" from the "Browse" menu.
  2. Select the "Campus" for which you would like to view courses.
  3. Select the "Session" for which you would like to view courses.
  4. Scroll down the list of Subject Codes or using the filter, click on the first letter of either the Subject Code or Subject Title.
  5. Click on the Subject Code to view all courses offered in that subject.
  6. Click on the Course to view the course description, credit value, pre-requisites/co-requisites (if applicable) and sections offered.
  7. Click on the section to view details such as start and end dates, meeting times, location, instructor, comments and seat summary.
Search Courses
  1. Select "Courses" from the "Search" menu.
  2. Select the "Campus" for which you would like to search for courses.
  3. Select the "Session" for which you would like to search for courses.
  4. Enter the search criteria. You can mouse over the "?" for a description. You can enter criteria in one or more fields.
  5. Click on the "Search for Sections" button at the bottom of the screen.
Browse Standard Timetables

A Standard Timetable (STT) is a pre-planned timetable which incorporates most of the courses required for a program.

  1. Select "Standard Timetables" from the "Browse" menu.
  2. Select the "Campus" for which you would like to search for Standard Timetables.
  3. Select the "Session" for which you would like to search for Standard Timetables.
  4. Select the appropriate Degree Code.
  5. Select the Year Level and Specialization (if applicable).
  6. Mouse over the STT Description for a timetable preview of the Standard Timetable.
  7. Drill down into a specific STT to see the sections included and to view the detailed timetable.

Creating a Worklist

The worklist feature allows you to keep working lists of subjects, courses and/or sections. You can use the worklist tool to build a conflict free timetable. Multiple worklists can be created. The worklist can also be used to facilitate the course registration process.

  1. Log in using your CWL ID and password.
  2. Select the "Campus" for which you would like to create a worklist.
  3. Select the "Session" for which you would like to create a worklist.
  4. Click on the "New Worklist" button located in the upper right section of the screen.
  5. Enter the Worklist Name and click on the "Create New Worklist" button.
  6. The newly created worklist will appear under the generic "Worklist 1".
  7. Your worklist is now ready for use.
Saving Courses to a Worklist
  1. Select the worklist for which you would like to save courses or course sections.
  2. You can find a course using the Browse Courses or Search Courses options which were described earlier.
  3. Find a course subject, course or course section you are interested in. You will see a "Save to Worklist" button. Click on this button to save the selected course subject, course or course section to your worklist. Note: for the purposes of building a timetable, it’s best to save course sections to your worklist.
  4. Continue to save courses and/or course sections to your worklist. If you drill down to the course level and hover over the course sections, the timetable preview will show how the section fits in with sections that are already in your worklist. Red denotes a conflict.
  5. Click on the worklist name to see what has been saved to the specified worklist.
  6. If you saved course sections to your worklist, click on the “View Timetable” button to view it in a timetable format.
  7. Click on "View Details" to view detailed information on the courses and course sections contained in your worklist.
Deleting Courses from a Worklist
  1. Select the worklist for which you would like to delete a course.
  2. Select the items you would like to delete from your worklist.
  3. Scroll down and click on the "Deleted Selected" button.
  4. The item(s) will be removed from your worklist.
Saving a Standard Timetable to a Worklist
  1. Select the worklist for which you would like to save a Standard Timetable.
  2. Search for an STT as described above in Browse Standard Timetables.
  3. Drill down into a specific STT.
  4. Click on the "Save to Worklist" button.
  5. The STT will be saved to your worklist.

Registration

Registering for a Course

Once you are logged in and have selected the appropriate Campus and Session, there are 3 ways to register for a course. Note: You will see these registration options on or after your assigned registration date and time.

  1. Drill down to the section level of any course and click on the "Register Section" button.
  2. -or-
  3. Select the appropriate worklist, check off the course sections you would like to register in and click the "Register Selected" button. If you wish to register in all of the courses in your worklist, click on the "Register All" button.
  4. -or-
  5. Select "Add/Drop Courses" from the "Registration" menu. Fill in the Course Code, Course Number and Section Number and then click on the "Register" button.
Dropping a Course
  1. Login and select the appropriate Campus and Session.
  2. Select "Add/Drop Courses" from the "Registration" menu. You will be presented with a list of your registered courses.
  3. Select the course you would like to drop.
  4. Click on the "Drop Selected" button.
Switching Sections of a Course
  1. Login and select the appropriate Campus and Session
  2. Select "Add/Drop Courses" from the "Registration" menu. You will be presented with a list of your registered courses.
  3. Select the course you would like to switch and then click on the "Switch Selected Section" button.
  4. From the list of course sections presented, select the section you would like to switch to and click on the "Switch Sections" button.

Specializations

Declaring Your Specialization

If a specialization is required for your program/year level, you will be prompted to declare one.

  1. Login and select the appropriate Campus and Session.
  2. Select "Specialization" from the "Browse" menu to view a list of all degree programs which have specializations.
  3. Select your degree program.
  4. Select your area of specialization from the subject list.
  5. Click on the "Add Spec" button.
  6. If the specialization indicates that you must contact the department, you will not be able to declare this online. Contact information is available at www.directory.ubc.ca
Changing your Specialization

If you have already declared a specialization and want to change it, browse through the specialization list as outlined above. Use the "Switch Spec" button to make the change.

Viewing your Specialization
  1. Login and select the appropriate Campus and Session.
  2. Select "Program" from the menu bar.
  3. If you have a specialization recorded, it will be displayed here.

Program

Selecting Your Program / Switching Your Program
  1. Login and select the appropriate Campus and Session.
  2. If you are eligible for more than one program you will be prompted to select eligibility.
  3. Select "Program" from the menu bar.
  4. You will be presented with a list of eligible programs for the specified session.
  5. Select the appropriate program and then click on the "Select Program for Registration" button.
  6. If you are already registered in a program and would like to switch to another program for which you have eligibility, select the appropriate program and click on the "Switch Program" button.
